5 Sales Funnel Tips That Will Make Your Copywriting and Marketing More Effective
Updated: Oct 26, 2022

As a health and wellness copywriter and self-proclaimed nerd, I thoroughly enjoy the creative strategy of a sales funnel. They offer so much to your company and your customers, especially in a world so saturated with content.
You can have many small funnels or one giant one that is fed every which way from Sunday. No matter how you do it, do it with strategy and dedication. If you half-ass your marketing, you will get half-ass results.
A sales funnel with good copywriting, and a smart strategy can transform your company in no time. Still, it takes time, money, research, and testing to develop the best formula for your company and target market.
What is a Sales Funnel?
A sales funnel is a designed marketing plan that directs prospective customers through the customer journey and is often seen as a multi tear funnel shape figure. You pour leads into the top and feed them through until you get repeat customers.
Another way to look at it is like a web where everything is connected in some way to the central goal of having loyal customers.
There are multiple types of marketing, copywriting, and customer engagement tools used in a sales funnel to offer something for everyone and at any stage of their customer journey. You have blogs and lead magnets for those who don’t know who you are and nourishing email campaigns for established customers.
This is what makes a strategically designed sales funnel so important. You are feeding your customers at every step of the way and consistently providing value, building trust, and keeping your company at the forefront of their minds.
There is, of course, some trial and error, and you will have to adjust your sails as your company and customer evolves. BUT…
A sales funnel, without a doubt, is the smartest investment you can make in your marketing.
Customer Journey
Depending on the model you look at, the customer journey can be laid out in 4-7 stages. In relation to funnels, it is easy to look at it like this…
TOFU (top of the funnel)
This is the awareness stage of your customer's journey. They have little to no idea who you are and what you're about. This is where ads and SEO blog posts come in.
Your prospects have a problem and are seeking a solution. This is where you show them that you might be the solution they are looking for.
MOFU (middle of funnel)
The interest and desire stage live in this section of the funnel. You have caught your prospects' eye, and now you want to offer things like webinars, guides, freebies, and other lead magnets that offer value and entice them to join your email list to stay in contact with you.
If they don’t move to the next stage right away, you can at least stay connected and build a relationship with them.
This is also the stage where you show them how awesome you are and what your company is all about.
BOFU (bottom of funnel)
Here your prospect reaches the action stage. They are ready to make a purchase and want to know if you are going to serve their needs.
Guarantees, social proof, and discounts help to ease any lingering objections and make your company the obvious right choice. Sales pages, CTAs, and promotional emails all work well in this stage of the funnel.

Lead Magnets
Lead magnets are an amazing way to give your prospects a little taste of your awesomeness and build desire and trust.
Lead magnets can be used to build an email list, nurture warm leads, or bring people to the action stage of their journey.
Landing Page
Landing pages are one of the most expensive forms of copywriting for a reason. They are highly valuable and an effective way to converting prospects into customers.
Tons of research goes into making an effective landing page, so it speaks directly to your target customers' needs, allows them to feel seen and understood, builds trust, and gives them the boost they need to make a purchase. All of this happens on one page!
Email Marketing
There is a reason emails have such a focus in marketing. It is a way for you to keep in contact with your customers, nurture your relationships, and offer value while promoting your awesomeness.
With a 42:1 ROI, a thought-out email marketing strategy with good copy is invaluable! It is often highly underrated or abused. There is a balance, and if you listen to your customers, or rather look at the data, it will tell you when you are doing it right. A/B testing is a great way to collect some of this data.
Social Proof
People are inherently hesitant to trust someone they don’t know, but when there is evidence that says this person is trustworthy, it is easier to do so. That is why social proof is so valuable.
Testimonials, case studies, and any other relevant data should be on your website, sales pages, and social media platforms. These will help your cold and warm leads know that you are worthy of their hard-earned money and that you will likely fulfill your promises.
Blogs
Optimized blog posts are valuable in so many ways…
They build SEO in the keywords your customers are searching for
They offer value to your customers no matter what stage they are in
It helps you get on the first page of search engines
It can be used in other marketing, such as emails or social media, for consistent customer engagement
While an optimized blog strategy takes longer to show results, it is a stellar long-term strategy for any company that wants to grow.
